Since first having it in Austria in December 2011, I’ve been a huge Grüner Veltliner fan. I can’t say I’ve tried them all, but more often than not, when I come across one I hadn’t had before, I’ll pick it up. At least, I don’t recall having had this particular one before. Stuff from Geyerhof, yes. In particular, their Wild wux Grüner Veltliner, which sadly seems unavailable in the UK at the moment.
In the glass
Clear, light to medium lemon. Bright. It’s pretty, and catches the sun nicely. It looks inviting. It’s the wine equivalent of a pool on a hot summer’s day. You just want to dive in.
The nose
Very faint. Citrus. Green apple. Maybe green apple skins, if I want to push so far that I feel like I’m basically making shit stuff up. Can’t get any more specific on the citrus.
The palate

My first thoughts: ‘Gorgeous.’ Light, crisp, refreshing. Wonderful balance of citrus and apple, although more red apple than the nose suggested. The citrus: it’s lemon curd, if you must know. At least how I make it. Which I need to do again soon.
Delightfully more-ish. I’m torn between enjoying small, wine-industry approved sips out of a proper wine glass, and the not-really-suited-for-proper-company get the tumblers out approach. In the end, I compromise, and fill up the wine glass more than is strictly proper.
High, clean, well-integrated acidity. The finish lingers for a good length of time and drifts towards stone fruits.
Rating
An easy Very Pretty on the visuals. Just so inviting to look at. It just draws you in.
Yummy-double-plus-good overall. I really should have bought more of this.
