A bit of a change-up. This one’s from the Co-op. Mainly because I needed a few things, and was too lazy to go to a wine shop for this week’s wine. I wasn’t quite in the mood to open one of the nicer bottles, since I’m not sure I’d enjoy it fully. Besides, you can find some quite nice wines in places like the Co-op, Aldi and such if you are lucky. I have no idea if this one will qualify, but there’s really only one way to find out. The dangers I am willing to face in the name of research…
In the glass
Dark red. Clear. Very red wine-ish. Utterly unremarkable, I think, but not disappointing at least.
The nose
A bit of dark fruits, maybe. Plums? Stewed somethings? I’m happy that I’m picking something up. So that’s a plus. I must admit, there’s nothing really calling out to me, or even whispering its appeal. But nothing to worry me. So, average-ness continues.
The palate
Dry, a bit on the thin side. Was expecting a bit more on the mouthfeel front. Fruits come across as rather indistinct and generic. A blend of some dark fruits. Maybe dark cherries, plums and blackberries? Perhaps a very faint hint of garrique, or maybe I’m stretching for something more complimentary to say. Unfortunately, I’m tasting this one alone, so there’s no one to ask.
Rating
Visually: It’s wine. Overall: Yum. It’s not a disappointment, luckily. I probably won’t buy it again, but I will happily drink more with dinner. I think it will do better with food. It’s not a wine that can stand up to much scrutiny, but it will serve for uncomplicated drinking with food.
