Although I have been to Slovenia several times, I have never (as far as I can recall) tried their wines. And definitely not while in Slovenia. That, admittedly, may have something to do with the rather brief nature of my visits there.
When my partner-in-wine, Julia, and I were conducting fieldwork in Austria, one place we were visiting was along the border with Slovenia. So much so, in fact, that in places the border ran down the middle of the road. So, being the responsible adult I am, we parked the car, and I proceeded to hop back and forth across the Austrian-Slovenian border several times.
At any rate, this is a chance to make up for not having any Slovenian wine on those trips. I am, it should be noted, not in Slovenia right now either. So it doesn’t really make up for the earlier lack. Deal with it.
In the glass
Clear, bright, medium gold. It’s another WSET-approved wine in appearance. When I subject it to my usual holding up to the light and seeing how it looks, the main thing I notice is that I didn’t do a good job drying the glass, and there are fingerprints on it.
At least this time, I remembered to check the phone for actual photographs of the glass before moving on.
The nose
Perhaps a very, very faint hint of lemon. Lemon drops.
The palate
My very first response was: Inoffensive. But that’s not really fair. It’s quaffable, and good for uncomplicated drinking. Pleasant. A light to medium body, I’d say. It has some decent zing to it. The finish is decent, and lingers for a bit.

The flavours, at least at first, only really start to show up in the finish. They’re there at first, but become more distinct afterwards. Then it is lemon that hesitantly sidles up to lime like me trying to be social at a party.
The back label (it’s amazing how far I’ll push my research for this blog) describes the wine as ‘cheerful, crisp and appetising.’ I could go with that.
It pairs well with The Zombies (‘She’s Not There’) and Buffalo Springfield (‘Hello Mr. Soul.’) Not as well with Dusty Springfield (‘Son of a Preacher Man.’) It also went rather well with the mac and cheese I had for dinner. Would go well with charcuterie.
Rating
It’s Wine on visuals, with Yummy overall. It’s a decent, quaffable wine. Not serious, but life would be boring if all wines were.
Sustainability
No information available, which means presumably it isn’t.
